Alleged Defilement: Lagos State Closes Case Against Dr. Olaleye

Lagos State Government on Friday told a Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court sitting in Ikeja that it has closed its case against the Medical Director of Cancer Care Foun­dation, Dr Olufemi Olaleye, charged with defiling his wife’s 16-year-old niece.

Defence counsel, Mr. Baba­tunde Ogala (SAN), however, informed the court that defence had filed a no-case submission.

Justice Ramon Oshodi con­sequently closed the prosecu­tion’s case and adjourned until March 16 for adoption of writ­ten addresses on the no-case submission.

Olaleye is standing trial on a two-count charge of defilement and sexual assault by penetra­tion.

An Investigative Police Of­ficer (IPO), Insp Abe Leonard, had on January 26, gave evi­dence against the defendant while a forensic expert at the Mirabel Centre, Lagos, Mrs Oyebimpe Akinbunmi, and one Insp Esther Igbineweka testified against the medical director on January 4.

Mrs Olabisi Ajayi-Kayode, a child forensic specialist with the Ceceyara Foundation, on January 3, gave evidence against the defendant.

The alleged victim, on Dec. 21, 2022, reportedly testified against the defendant in a closed hearing in line with the 1999 Constitution and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.

The wife of the defendant, Mrs. Aderemi Fagbemi-Olal­eye, on Dec. 19, 2022, told the court that her husband was diagnosed with sex addiction.

The alleged offences violate Sections 137 and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
