Fulham started strong, dominating possession and creating numerous chances. Their efforts paid off when Emile Smith Rowe, a recent £34 million signing from Arsenal, opened the scoring. The 23-year-old midfielder, who had struggled for game time at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta, wasted no time in making an impact at Craven Cottage. Receiving the ball from Adama Traoré on the left, Smith Rowe drove forward before unleashing a precise shot into the far corner, leaving Hermansen with no chance.
Smith Rowe expressed his delight after the match, saying, “I can’t be happier. To play my first game at Craven Cottage and get the three points, I’m really happy.”
Leicester, however, responded 20 minutes later through Faes. The Belgian defender thought he had drawn his side level, but his effort was initially ruled out by referee Darren Bond, who judged Jamie Vardy to have interfered with Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno from an offside position. However, after a VAR review, Bond overturned his decision, allowing Faes’ goal to stand.
Despite Leicester’s equalizer, Fulham remained in control and found their winner through Iwobi. Leicester struggled to regain momentum after falling behind again, with Wilfred Ndidi coming closest to a late equalizer, only to see his shot saved by Leno.
The victory marks Fulham’s first win of the season, a crucial result after their narrow 1-0 loss to Manchester United in their opening fixture.
