Lawyers for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate, have expressed pleasure with the testimony of a witness in the current Election Petitions Tribunal in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Leading PDP attorney Chris Uche (SAN) spoke to reporters outside the tribunal and disclosed that the witness, a licensed election observer, had told the panel of judges that only 31% of the results posted on INEC’s Result Viewing portal (IREV) were mathematically accurate.
Uche expressed his satisfaction that the court had accepted the final report of the EU Observer Mission, an outside observer team authorized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The witness, an INEC Director, read out the report’s conclusions, which said that the elections on February 25 fell short of expectations.
The witness stated that just 31% of the results submitted to IREV were mathematically correct, as stated in the EU report. The PDP’s argument is considered as benefiting from this discovery.
The witness’s testimony confirms the PDP’s assertions that the statistics posted on INEC’s website did not accurately reflect the results of the presidential election. It supports their claim even more that the elections fell short of expectations.
