On Saturday, April 26, 2025, a tragic accident occurred on the Oyo-Ogbomoso road in Oyo State, resulting in the deaths of several students traveling to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Eyewitnesses reported that the commercial vehicle transporting the candidates suffered a brake failure, leading to the fatal crash. The exact number of casualties has not been officially confirmed. In a related development, JAMB announced the arrest of 27 individuals for impersonation during the ongoing UTME. The board has also delisted four Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers that failed to meet required technical standards.

As of April 25, over 900,000 candidates have successfully completed the UTME out of the 2,083,600 registered for the 2025 examination. Candidates affected by the delisting of CBT centers are advised to reprint their examination notification slips to access new centers and rescheduled dates.

This incident underscores the need for improved safety measures for students traveling to examination centers across the country.
