2027: Only Goodluck Jonathan Can Challenge Tinubu, But He’s Not Interested – Dele Momodu

Nigerian media mogul and former presidential aspirant, Dele Momodu, has stirred political conversations following his latest remarks on the 2027 general elections. According to Momodu, former President Goodluck Jonathan remains the only southern candidate with the political clout and national acceptance capable of effectively challenging President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking in a recent interview, Momodu emphasized Jonathan’s credibility, popularity, and governance experience as major advantages. However, he quickly noted that the former president appears uninterested in returning to the political battlefield.

“He’s the only southern candidate who can take on Tinubu, but he’s not ready to stress himself,” Momodu said…….CONTINUE READING

Momodu went further to highlight how the opposition landscape is limited without a strong southern contender. He pointed out that aside from Jonathan, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) only considers Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President, as a real threat—evidenced by the constant political attacks aimed at discrediting him.

Another major concern raised by Momodu is the growing alliance between Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, which he described as formidable. According to him, anyone planning to contest must be “battle-ready” to take on the Tinubu-Wike political machinery.

“The 2027 election will be like the World Cup. You don’t take it lightly. You bring your best strikers,” he stated.

He also criticized the opposition, especially the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), for their reluctance to form coalitions that could present a united front against the APC.

Momodu’s comments have sparked renewed debate about who is best positioned to take on the presidency in 2027, particularly in light of rising economic concerns and calls for political reforms.

As the countdown to 2027 begins, Nigerians are keenly watching to see whether Jonathan will reconsider or if a new southern force will emerge.
