Wife Testifies As Witness Against Dr Olaleye In Court

The wife of a medical doctor, Olufemi Olaleye of Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, has told the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, sitting in Ikeja that her motive for filing a complaint of defilement against him was because of her conscience and late mother who raised her to be strong and confident.

The defilement case against Dr. Femi Olaleye resumed on Monday with the Lagos State government represented by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Babajide Martins presenting his principal witness. Mrs Fagbemi Olaleye has been married to the defendant, since 2011, they both have a ten year old daughter and a 7 year old son.

According to The first prosecution witness, the survivor – her second cousin who turned 18 in March 2022, lived with them between December 2019 and July 2022.

She claims the survivor, whose names are withheld, confessed to an aunt to the witness and the family driver on how the defendant sexually molested her, between March 2020 and November 2021, and that he also introduced her to pornography, as well as oral and penetrative sex.

“She confessed to my aunt that since march 2020, Femi had been molesting her and introduced her to pornograhy and oral sex.

She said he does this in areas of our house where there are no cameras such as the study, ante room, in the middle of the night, or when I am not around, almost on a daily basis. He usually sits on the couch and opens his manhood. He would release in her mouth and fondle her. She also mentioned that the acts progressed to penetrative sex. He was able to penetrate her with the use of a lubricant.

One day, the family driver – Waheed came to work early that morning and met her at the back of the house crying and spitting out a substance. When he accosted her, she told him it was sperm and that she was tired and afraid that the defendant would kill her, and that he had been molesting her. When he wanted to go and confront the defendant, she pleaded with him not to go as he had threatened to kill us and flee if she reported, as he had a British passport. Femi can be violent, he has beaten me on two occasions. There was no time since November 2021 that Femi had denied the allegations, he has spoken to me about apologising to the whole family and the victim, saying it was the work of the devil.”

The businesswoman added in court that she reported the matter to the police at the Anthony area, and that when the DPO who turned out to be his patient confronted him with the allegations, he broke down in tears and admitted to having carnal knowledge of the survivor. The witness says her daughter also later told her she once saw the defendant undress the survivor.

According to the witness, her husband was granted administrative bail by the police after signing an undertaking that he would seek professional help and stay away from his family pending further investigation.

She also says that her husband checked himself into a rehabilitation home; Grace Cottage Clinics in Ilupeju, where he was diagnosed with suffering from sexual addiction.
She said, “The psychologist there also told her that if he didn’t conclude his treatment, he could suffer a relapse and endanger his daughter or other members of the society.

She also claimed that the defendant at the time of the alleged crimes usually gave her pills to use at night saying he told her they would help her relax and avert blood clots.

The witness accused the defendant of harassing after she filed a report and that she got life threatening messages at the time which made her change her location and petition the police over threats to her safety.

During her cross-examination, lead defense counsel, Babatunde Ogala, (SAN) asked the witness, if at anytime her husband signed off ownership of his Mercedes car to her whilst in detention, but she denied.

He also asked her if she asked for a refund of 1.8 million Naira for the upkeep of their children and she said it was at the instance of his friends who came to check up on them.

The defense also presented some video clips which were played in court of the witness beating the survivor but she said she was disciplining her and that it was before her cousin spoke out on the allegations.

After her testimony, Justice Oshodi disqualified A second witness from testifying for the state government after it was discovered that he was present during the testimony of the defendant’s wife.

Further hearing continues on Wednesday December 21.
