Cubana Chief Priest’s Legal Battle: Nearing a Settlement in Currency Controversy
In a recent development at the Federal High Court in Lagos, a significant date has been set for the ongoing legal saga involving Cubana Chief Priest, the popular celebrity bartender.
The case revolves around allegations of Cubana Chief Priest mishandling Nigerian currency, specifically during a social event at Eko Hotel in Lagos.
Initially arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on three counts, Cubana Chief Priest pleaded not guilty and was granted bail.
However, during a recent court session, both the prosecution and defense signaled a possible resolution through a settlement, a move in accordance with the EFCC Act.
Consequently, the defense withdrew their preliminary objection, paving the way for potential reconciliation. As a result, the court adjourned the proceedings until June 5, awaiting a report on the settlement progress.
The charges against Cubana Chief Priest stem from allegations of tampering with N500 notes, a violation of the Central Bank Act of 2007.
This development echoes a similar case involving Bobrisky, who recently faced conviction by the EFCC on similar charges.
