Ayodeji Makun, also known as AY, has confessed that he has given up on reconciling with his colleague, Basketmouth.

AY and Basketmouth have been feuding for 17 years, and AY recently revealed that the conflict stemmed from a N30,000 gig.

AY said in an interview with Chude Jideonwo that his dispute with Basketmouth started in 2006 when Basketmouth refused to pay him the agreed-upon N30,000 for stepping in for him at an event.

Basketmouth, on the other hand, denied ever being acquainted with AY and claimed that most of AY’s assertions during his interview with Chude Jideonwo were lies.

AY publicly declared Basketmouth as his “guy” during his Easter Sunday event in London in April 2023, in what appeared to be an attempt to make peace. Unfortunately, the two comedians did not reconcile as a result of this gesture. ICYMI, you can read about it here.

In a recent interview with Teju Babyface, AY revealed that he had made efforts to reconcile their relationship over the years, but he has now reached a point where he no longer wishes reconciliation and is willing to take the resentment to his grave.

AY stated that his attempts to reconcile with Basketmouth were known to prominent colleagues in the comedy industry. When Basketmouth remained unyielding, they encouraged him to take a step back and quit pressuring the reunion.

“The bros [senior colleagues in the comedy industry] were aware of [my feud with Basketmouth] and had to ask me to slow down at some point. ‘You’re doing too much,” he said.

“You’re putting in way too much effort to make this thing work. Friendship cannot be forced.I was convinced that ‘No, this can’t work’. Even in my last stand-up comedy show, I had to go on stage and perform another performance called “My Guy.” How’s my boyfriend doing? This is the man I’m looking for. Tell him he’s my boyfriend if you see him.’ The next morning, everything detonated all over again. ‘We don’t get along. We are not like that. This is not who we are.

“As a result, I’m no longer pushing anything. Now that I’m here as AY, if I have to go to my grave without sitting with any of these guys to say ‘hello,’ I’ll be content,” he stated.
