President Bola Tinubu has expressed optimism about his administration’s ability to surmount the obstacles that confront the nation, stating that Nigeria not only has the means to thrive but also has a responsibility to lead the rest of the African continent to success.

In a statement issued by Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communication and Strategy, Dele Alake, the President stated this when he had an audience with visiting Bank of America officials in his office at the State House on Tuesday.

According to him, his administration was committed to instituting reforms that would engender the sustainable growth and development of the country.

“We believe we are on the right track so far. We believe we need all the help we can get,” the President said as he asked the bank’s management for support and partnership that would advance mutual benefits for Nigeria and the financial institution.

President Tinubu said governance and development challenges facing the country cannot be addressed without fiscal and institutional reforms.

Fire Guts Hotel In Onitsha

Fire has gutted the popular Soprom Hotel in the commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra State, destroying property worth millions of naira.

The state’s police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident on Monday, said the fire started around 5am and that policemen were immediately deployed to the scene to maintain law and order.

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday expressed confidence that his administration is on the pathway to success despite the challenges facing the country, noting however, that Nigeria needs all the help it can get.

He made the declaration while receiving visiting International Bank of America officials in his office at the presidential villa, Abuja, where he affirmed that the country has no reason to fail the rest of the African continent.

The President said his government is committed to instituting reforms that would engender the sustainable growth and development of the country.

Gunmen Kill Volunteer Guard, Abduct Two In Benue

Gunmen believed to be bandits have shot an officer of Benue State Volunteer Guards (BSCVG) dead and abducted two people in Ugba rural town of Logo Local Government Area of the state.

Residents told our correspondent in Makurdi that the incident happened around 3pm on Monday.

The witnesses said that the two people kidnapped by the gunmen include the Principal of Ugondo College in Ugba, Abraham Yangeve popularly known as Spaco and the wife of a proprietor of Gifted Nursery and Primary School in Ugba.

They said the robbery gang drove in a car to the town, carted away two other cars and an undisclosed amount of money as well as telephone handsets from customers at Dex Joint situated close to Izupet filling station where they also robbed their victims.

It was gathered that the volunteer guard was shot at a checkpoint where he and his colleagues mounted a roadblock to prevent the robbers from escaping.

Witnesses said that the wounded personnel was however rushed to General Hospital, Ugba.
