Journalist Lemmy Ughegbe, criticized the recent statement issued by the presidency, following the European Union Election Observation Mission’s presentation of the final report.

During an interview with AIT, Ughegbe expressed his concern over President Bola Tinubu’s characterization ìof the 2023 presidential election, as flawless and the best-organized. According to Ughegbe, the danger lies in this statement, as it may pave the way for a worse situation in the 2027 election. He highlighted that, Tinubu’s refusal to acknowledge any flaws in the election, doesn’t bode well for future elections in 2027.

Hw asserted that, Tinubu’s statement that, the election was flawless, raises concerns about the potential for a more problematic 2027 election. It’s important to acknowledge that, no election can be truly perfect, as there are bound to be some imperfections and gaps. Expressing the election as entirely flawless, without admitting any shortcomings can be worrisome.

He stated, Given that Tinubu was a candidate, and not responsible for conducting the election, some wonder why he feels the need to involve himself in defending its perfection. They believe the responsibility for handling election-related issues, should lie with INEC and President Buhari, rather than him jumping into the matter.

He further asserted that, “Since Tinubu was not involved in conducting the elections, it is not within his purview, and he should instead focus on matters related to governance. It is unclear why Dele Alake claimed that, the election was flawless when it was evident that, it was far from perfect.”
