During an interview with Arise , Chike Ogeah, former Commissioner for Information, Delta State, stated that people don’t just join the president’s convoy because the president’s convoy is the president’s convoy. He made the statement in reaction to the convoy that was captured in a video while returning from Paris.
As regards this, Ogeah stated that it is important for the government to cut down on the cost of governance so as to prevent leakages of the national income. He also stated that people cannot suffer while enduring the pains of the fuel subsidy removal while the government is moving around with hundreds of cars.
According to him, “People just don’t join the president’s convoy. The president’s convoy is the president’s convoy. If there are 20 cars in that convoy, there should be major security, and after that, there must be like a mile of road closure before any other convoy can come. There are even security issues, and there was also a case again, so looking at everything holistically of the speaker, the new speaker, who was just appointed, I don’t know how many aides too. So we must trim down, and we must cut down on that excess fat in government. When I was coming here today, you needed to see the number of people that were trekking on the road. I tell you, I’ve never noticed that till today, and it just occurred to me that where are these people going to? They’re walking on the road.”
