Famous attorney and leader of the Labour Party, Barrister Kenneth Okonkwo, has taken to social media to mock the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for failing to call any witnesses in court as Nigerians continue to follow proceedings at the ongoing Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal currently taking place in the country’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Recall that the legal team for INEC was expected to begin its defense on Monday, July 3, 2023, in response to petitions that Peter Gregory Obi of the Labour Party and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the PDP had brought against the election umpire.
However, Okonkwo, a part of the legal team defending Obi and the Labour Party before the Tribunal, stated in a tweet just now that INEC was unable to launch its defense since it could not call its first witness in court.
Further, Okonkwo claimed that the five-member panel of Appeal Court Justices were informed by the attorneys for the electoral umpire that the witness had failed to appear in court as previously scheduled.
The LP leader continued by charging the electoral umpire with squandering resources and people’s time by delaying the launch of its defense.
