During a private meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu instructed the new service chiefs, the National Security Adviser (NSA), and the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) to work together as a team and fulfill their mandate. The meeting, which was the first of its kind, took place on Monday. The President expressed his expectations for the security agencies and urged them to deliver on their responsibilities.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, NSA Mallam Nuhu Ribadu assured the President and Nigerians that the security agencies would succeed in safeguarding the nation and promoting peace and stability. He expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve the country and affirmed their loyalty to President Tinubu, Nigeria, and its citizens.
The NSA further emphasized that President Tinubu made the right decision in appointing the new security chiefs, acknowledging the President’s intentions for the nation. He stated that the security chiefs would exert continuous efforts to achieve their goal of ensuring the safety of the country, restoring peace and stability, and allowing people to resume their normal lives. Ribadu highlighted the decline in crime rates and assured that the trend would continue, while expressing confidence in the capabilities of the appointed security chiefs.
