The former finance minister, Zainab Ahmed, has secured a job at the World Bank a few weeks after leaving office.
Zainab Ahmed was appointed finance minister by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018 following the resignation of Kemi Adeosun.
She left office at the expiration of Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure on May 29, 2023.
The immediate past minister for finance has been appointed as the Alternate Executive Director at the World Bank.
Baring hitches, she will resume at the bank’s headquarters in Washington on July 10.
However, there appears to be pushback from some interests who allege that the former minister did not follow due process.
According to a report, the World Bank had sent a letter requesting that the position be filled several months before the end of Buhari’s administration, but the former minister allegedly kept the letter to herself.
It was alleged that Zainab didn’t get the approval of Buhari or President Bola Tinubu before applying for the position.
However, a top source in the Federal Government has told Vanguard that it is impossible for the former minister to get the job without the approval of the president.
Many Nigerians on social media have reacted to the development. See some reactions below.
