The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has claimed that the success of the Igbos in Nigeria has led to unwarranted envy towards the tribe.
In an interview with Punch paper, he stated that the Igbos are the only ethnic group that remains dedicated to the Nigerian constitution, which emphasizes nation building.
He emphasized that since Nigeria’s amalgamation, the Igbos have taken on the responsibility of traveling across the country to contribute to its development.
Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu highlighted that the problem the Igbos face is their strong adherence to the constitutional right of every Nigerian to freely live, work, and make a positive impact anywhere in the country.
This commitment, combined with their resourcefulness, has resulted in their prosperity not only in Nigeria but worldwide. However, their exceptional achievements have also attracted feelings of jealousy from others.
In his words, “The issue faced by the Igbo people is their strong adherence to the Nigerian constitution, which grants every Nigerian the freedom to reside, work, and contribute to the development of any part of Nigeria peacefully and happily.
This principle has been followed by the Igbo people since the amalgamation of Nigeria in 1914. Due to their resourcefulness, they have thrived not only within Nigeria but also globally. However, their dominance and success have sparked feelings of jealousy among some individuals.”
