Alhaji Asari Mujahid Dokubo recently shared a Facebook live video where he discussed a conversation he had with a traditional title holder from Onitsha, Anambra state.
According to Dokubo, the traditional title holder, whose identity he did not disclose, claimed to be from Onitsha but not an Igbo man. He asserted that Anambra state is not originally an Igbo state, prompting Dokubo to question why people are denying being Igbo.
The traditional title holder also mentioned that he is a Benin man who found himself in Igbo land. Despite wearing an Onitsha traditional title holder attire, he argued that there are many Igala and Edo people living in Onitsha.
The traditional title holder explained that many people in Anambra chose to identify as Igbo for inclusivity. Dokubo further pointed out instances where prominent individuals like footballer Sunday Oliseh and former service chief General Lucky Irabor openly stated that they are not Igbo, leaving him to wonder why people continue to deny this tribe.
In his words, “Why are people denying the Igbo tribe? Even well-known figures like Sunday Oliseh and General Lucky Irabor have made it clear that they are not Igbo.”
