In a surprising revelation, it has been disclosed that the real top scorer of the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) is Umeh Nkechinyere, a 16-year-old from Anambra State, while Ejikeme Mmesoma, also from the same state, fraudulently presented herself as the top scorer. The board announced Umeh as the true top scorer during its policy meeting held in Abuja on June 24, 2023, with an outstanding aggregate score of 360.

While Umeh received well-deserved recognition from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Ejikeme faced severe criticism for her deceptive actions. JAMB revealed that Ejikeme had manually inflated her UTME score from 249 to 362, using this falsified result to secure a N3 million scholarship from Innoson Motors. The Anambra State government had even prepared to honor her before the truth emerged.

Expressing their disappointment, JAMB stated, “She had manipulated her UTME result to deceive the public and fraudulently obtain a scholarship and other recognitions.” As a consequence, Ejikeme will face prosecution, and JAMB will withdraw her original result.

This revelation brings to light the importance of maintaining integrity and honesty in academic achievements, emphasizing the consequences that can follow dishonest practices.
