The Southeast region has since been saying that they should be given the chance to produce the President of Nigeria, and prior to the February 25th Presidential Election, Ohanaeze Ndigbo told political parties to microzone their Presidential ticket to the Southeast so that a President of Southeast extraction can emerge. The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu during an interview with Punch paper said some young people in South-East felt they were not treated well, and this made them to start an agitation, which according to him led to the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu.
Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu said they are not trying to say that if Nigeria has an Igbo President, everything is going to be sweet for us, and that a non-Igbo President might even do more than an Igbo President. He stated further that the Igbos have succeeded in businesses and their successes will help them excel in leadership positions.
