Tragedy struck Damboa town in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno state when insurgents launched a deadly attack, claiming the lives of at least six individuals, including women while leaving many others injured.

Verified Gist reports that the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) descended upon Waluri bridge in Damboa town at precisely 8:30 pm, targeting a civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) location.

According to a security source, the attackers failed to breach the town’s defences, prompting them to resort to firing a mortar bomb into the area, resulting in further casualties. “There was an attack by ISWAP last night in Damboa town. We lost six people, including women, and more than 20 individuals were rushed to the hospital. The situation is currently under control,” revealed the security source.

This newspaper learnt that the civilian members of the JTF resisted the assailants, but two of their members suffered serious injuries during the confrontation. Subsequently, the attackers unleashed mortar bombs on the town, causing widespread destruction and loss of life.

“We are deeply saddened by these incidents transpiring in Damboa, but we will not allow evil to prevail. As we speak, six people have lost their lives, and 23 others are currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital,” expressed a prominent member of the Civilian JTF.

This recent assault follows another brutal attack that occurred just five days ago, where seven farmers were mercilessly slaughtered near Damboa town. It is noteworthy that Damboa, which houses a Nigerian Army garrison, had not experienced such a brazen attack in the past two years.
