In a statement signed by Dr. Bayo Adenuga, Afenifere’s factional publicity secretary, the group expressed concern over the lack of progress in the investigation, attributing it to alleged interference by Senator Akume. They emphasized that suspending Akume would allow for an independent and unbiased investigation into the matter.
Afenifere has given the EFCC a seven-day ultimatum to update the public on the status of the investigation, warning of nationwide protests if no action is taken. They also reminded President Tinubu of his commitment to fighting corruption, urging him to act decisively in this case to maintain public trust in his administration’s anti-corruption efforts
