Ewherido cautioned Christians and Nigerians at large, against selling their votes and be ready to cast them during the forthcoming general elections.
“This is an important year for Nigerians. As we go to vote once more, we must all contribute our quota to save our nation. Let’s all pray for and ensure peaceful, free and fair elections.
“Shun corruption, don’t sell your birthright, carry out your civic responsibility and vote your conscience for the growth of our nation,” Ewherido said.
He also thanked God almighty for the “gift” of being ordained a bishop, just as he extended his gratitude to the ‘Holy Father’, Pope Francis.
The highlight of the ceremony was the handing over of the book of the gospels and insignia to the new bishop by the Vatican ambassador.
The papal nuncio emphasised that the bishop’s office is not one of “honour,” but a “service” to the church.
He enjoined the new bishop to be fervent in prayers, stating “if the bishop fails to pray, the church suffers”.
