Nigerian Man Vows to Shut Down Six GTBank Accounts Over VeryDarkMan Arrest Controversy

A Nigerian man, Lekan Adeyemi, has publicly declared his intention to close all six of his Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) accounts, sparking social media buzz and raising fresh concerns over the ongoing controversy surrounding activist VeryDarkMan (VDM).

Adeyemi took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce his decision, stating that he could no longer continue banking with GTBank in light of the recent developments. “In solidarity with VDM & mum, I’m closing ALL my 6 accounts with GTBANK asap. By this post, I am instructing my children and family to do same. Anyone who wishes to transact business with me using a GTBANK account has failed before starting. General public, please take note,” he posted.

This declaration follows recent reports of VeryDarkMan’s arrest, with sources claiming the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) labeled him a “bandit.” While the EFCC’s official reasons remain under scrutiny, many believe the arrest is politically motivated. Allegations also surfaced online suggesting that GTBank may have played a role in the ordeal, prompting public outrage.

The incident has triggered a wave of solidarity from VDM supporters, many of whom are calling for a boycott of GTBank services. Social media platforms have since seen a surge in posts criticizing the bank and demanding accountability.

As of the time of reporting, GTBank has not released any official statement addressing the claims or distancing itself from the controversy. The silence has only fueled more speculation, with public trust potentially hanging in the balance.

Lekan Adeyemi’s bold move has added to the growing pressure on the bank, signaling that customers are willing to take drastic measures in defense of perceived social injustices. Whether this protest will snowball into a wider boycott remains to be seen.

For now, the public awaits clarification and action from GTBank as the call for justice and transparency continues.
