Taking to Instagram, the billionaire entrepreneur urged Nigerians to respect the nation’s currency and comply with financial regulations during celebrations. He stated:
“Let’s celebrate responsibly and avoid fines. Respect our currency! If you must give money at a party, make sure you put it in a basket, bowl, or box in front of the person. Don’t drop any currency on the floor. This is advised by the EFCC. Ignorance is not going to be an excuse.”
The EFCC has recently intensified its campaign against the abuse of the Naira, warning that individuals who spray, step on, or throw money at parties are breaking the law and risk prosecution.
The law views spraying and trampling on currency notes as a violation of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, and those found guilty may face fines, jail time, or both.
E-Money’s statement has sparked conversations on social media, with mixed reactions from Nigerians. While some appreciate the clarification and call for compliance, others believe the enforcement is selective and may be targeting high-profile individuals unfairly.
Regardless of the debate, E-Money’s advice is a timely reminder for Nigerians to familiarize themselves with laws related to public conduct and currency handling.
