Male menopause, often referred to as andropause, isn’t talked about nearly as much as female menopause, but it’s very real and every man should be aware of it. Unlike female menopause, which involves a clear and sudden drop in hormones, male menopause is more gradual. It typically starts around age 40 or older when testosterone levels begin to slowly decline.
One of the most noticeable symptoms is low energy. You may find yourself constantly tired, less motivated, or struggling to get through the day. Alongside that comes a drop in libido, which can affect intimacy and confidence.
Some men also experience mood swings, irritability, and even depression, which can be mistaken for other emotional struggles.
Physically, andropause can lead to weight gain, particularly around the belly, loss of muscle mass, and weaker bones. Sleep problems, such as insomnia or waking up frequently at night, are also common.
It’s important to note that not every man will experience these symptoms intensely, but if you do, you’re not alone.
